Description

The image of a witch flying on a broom has come to symbolize the city of Salem, but few know that it originated within the House of the Seven Gables. The mansion’s last residents, the Uptons, began touring Hawthorne fans through the house in the late 1800s. A daughter of the family, Ida Upton, sold hand-painted “witch cups” and “witch plates” to tourists that were decorated with the earliest rendition of this classic image. Her design has inspired countless variations over the last century.

This mug is the perfect practical souvenir to commemorate your time spent in Salem. It is adorned with the House of the Seven Gables’ exclusive design, “Salem, Teaching Fine Witches Since 1692,” to pay homage to Salem’s unique heritage.
