Caroline Emmerton founded The House of the Seven Gables Settlement Association in 1910, using proceeds from tours of the famous mansion to fund her community education work. While we still depend upon revenue from visitors, it is not enough to sustain our mission to be a welcoming, thriving, historic site and community resource that engages people of all backgrounds in our inclusive American story, and we do not receive federal funding.

DESIGNATED PROJECTS
The House of the Seven Gables has several projects that will enhance our ability to fulfill our mission. Your generous support makes our work possible.
FUNDRAISING EVENTS
Please join us at The House of the Seven Gables on Sunday April 30th for our Spring Fundraiser, a tea to celebrate Gables founder Caroline Emmerton’s birthday. We are also celebrating a generous grant from the Wyeth Foundation for American Art to restore Flight Into Egypt, a Sophia Peabody Hawthorne painting believed to be from Caroline’s collection. Before her marriage to Nathaniel Hawthorne, Sophia was one of America’s first professional women artists. She exhibited at the Boston Athenaeum and was known for her oil paintings, illustrations, and sculptures. This is the first in a series of conservation projects planned for paintings related to the women of the Gables. Ticket fees for this event will go towards this conservation program.
Come and enjoy the spring gardens and see some of the paintings before enjoying with a brief presentation on Sophia’s life and work with an afternoon tea service catered by Mary Ferreira with teas provided by Jolie Tea Company.
All proceeds benefit conservation and preservation programs for The House of the Seven Gables.
Tickets are $110 each for the public and $95 each for Gables members. Buy tickets here.
Support The House of the Seven Gables at our annual fundraiser, Sips by the Sea, on Saturday, September 9th. The evening will be full of fun, food, purpose, and philanthropy on our oceanfront lawn. This year, the fundraiser focuses on four important projects: the Settlement Program, the redesigning of the Derby Street signage and walkway, the interpretation of The Gables’ Dining Room Chamber, and the reinterpretation of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s Birthplace. Your attendance will help ensure a strong future for The Gables.
Tickets are $90 each for the public and $75 each for Gables members. Buy tickets here.
