Mosses From an Old Manse

$17.00

“Let the reader, if he will do me so much honor, imagine himself my guest, and that, having seen whatever may be worthy of notice within and about the Old Manse, he has finally been ushered into my study. There, after seating him in an antique elbow chair, an heirloom of the house, I take forth a roll of manuscript and entreat his attention to the following tales…” Nathaniel Hawthorne, Mosses from an Old Manse

Description

Mosses from an Old Manse is Hawthorne’s second publication of 26 short stories that were written over a span of twenty years. It features classics like “Young Goodman Brown,” “The Birthmark,” and “Rappaccini’s Daughter.” It was originally published in two volumes in 1846, ten years after his publication of Twice Told Tales.

The Modern Library Classics edition of Mosses from an Old Manse includes an introduction by Mary Oliver and features newly commissioned explanatory notes.

Each Nathaniel Hawthorne book is stamped saying “Purchased from the House of the Seven Gables,” and with a facsimile of his signature from our archives.
