- This event has passed.
Date: November 29, 2014 @ 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm
To ring in the holiday season, The House of the Seven Gables welcomes Ken Turino, Manager of Community Engagement and Exhibitions at Historic New England, to give a dynamic presentation on the history of Christmas observance in New England. This engaging lecture spans four centuries, from the time Christmas was outlawed in 17th Century New England, to the 21st Century, when all of the familiar holiday traditions were in place. During this presentation, you will discover how Christmas has evolved from non-observance into the festive holiday that we know today.
Join us after the presentation for a special, themed tour of The House of the Seven Gables mansion, to walk the halls of a house that has stood the test of time to witness the changing nature of Christmas in New England. A tour guide will lead you from room to room in the house which will be beautifully adorned with traditional holiday décor.
