House of Seven Gables postcard
Description
This postcard features the Turner-Ingersoll mansion before the 1909-1910 restoration when the Upton family lived in the house. The Uptons were successfully associating the home with Nathaniel Hawthorne’s popular novel and the house was beginning to attract both domestic and international visitors. While the postcard is similar to many in our collection, several gold embellishments distinguish this piece from the rest.
