2012 View of the parlor in the gables decorated for Christmas

Date: December 2, 2018 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

A dynamic presentation on the history of Christmas observance in New England.

This engaging lecture spans four centuries, from the time Christmas was outlawed in 17th Century New England, to the 21st Century, when all of the familiar holiday traditions were in place. During this presentation, you will discover how Christmas has evolved from non-observance into the festive holiday that we know today.

Historic Salem, Inc. and The House of the Seven Gables would like to thank Ken Turino, Manager of Community Engagement and Exhibitions at Historic New England and member of the Board of Trustees at The Gables for offering this lecture during Christmas in Salem weekend.

This lecture is open for members of The House of the Seven Gables and Christmas in Salem ticket holders.

This lecture will be held in the Visitor Center on a first come, first served basis.
