Remembering Derby Street
- This event has passed.
Date: June 14, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Join us as we welcome Salem native Richard Tobin as he transports us back to Derby Street in the 1940s and 50s! Tobin was brought up in an Irish family in the Polish neighborhood of Salem and was an active participant in the House of the Seven Gables Settlement Association. He and his wife (of Polish descent) met at the Gables and were married for over 65 years. After a distinguished career in the engineering and business world, he wrote and published two books reflecting on these times; Miss Zib, and Walking with Miss Zib, the former of which is the basis for this talk. Come learn about the impact the Settlement Association had on this family and so many more, what life was like for immigrants at the time, and the similarities and differences between Salem then and now!
Tickets are $10 for nonmembers. Member tickets are free.
