May is Historic Preservation Month and The Gables is kicking it off with a great discussion of climate and historic preservation! Climate change impacts us all, but in different ways and with a variety of outcomes. This year’s Community Conversations series will focus on some of these impacts, existing and proposed efforts to mitigate the negative changes, and what we can do as individuals to address climate change in our communities. Are overflowing gutters, leaky basements, spreading mold and flooding now regular occurrences at your historic house? Are you concerned about the impact of climate change on your building and at a loss on how to proceed? Come hear Patricia Kelleher, Salem’s Preservation Planner, and Susan Baker, the Gables’ Collection Manager, talk about Salem’s approach to historic preservation in a changing climate, then dive deeper into what one historic site, The House of the Seven Gables, is doing to adapt to climate change challenges.
This event is free, but registration is required.
