SOLD OUT: Member-Exclusive: Nahant Walking Tour
- This event has passed.
Date: April 24, 2021 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Leadership-level members are welcome to enjoy a two-hour walking tour of Nahant led by Chris Mathias, past president of the Nahant Historical Society and co-author of “Images of America: Nahant”, along with Ken Turino, Vice President of The Gables’ Board of Directors.
Nahant, the smallest municipality in Massachusetts at only 1.4 sq. miles on two islands, makes up for its size with its rich history. Originally part of Lynn, it became independent in 1853 over “cocktails”. Did you know, Nahant and Nahant Beach are mentioned several times in Nathaniel Hawthorne’s short story, “The Village Uncle” from Twice-Told Tales?
On this tour, members will see the homes of prominent citizens, amazing ocean views, and learn about the lighthouse which once stood on Egg Rock. The history of East Point as the site of a resort hotel, a family estate, and as a military coastal defense installation, complete with Nike missiles, will be discussed. This not-to-be-missed event concludes with a glass of Prosecco on Chris and Ken’s terrace overlooking the ocean.
This tour will accommodate a total of 8 participants to ensure social distancing and will sell out. If you are not yet a Patron Level Member ($150) you can join now or contact us today to upgrade. A second tour has been added for May 15.
