A collage of images for the New Immigrant and Refugee Visions Film and Conversation Series

Date: November 10, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Cost: Free

Join us for two unique films made by immigrants, about immigrants in partnership with Community Supported Film.

New Immigrant and Refugee Visions is a collection of documentary films by and about new immigrants and refugees. The stories produced provide a unique insider perspective on the integration challenges faced by immigrants and the contributions they make to our culture, economy, and social fabric.

On November 10, we will be showing:

  • Lift with Your Heart: Choreographer Jean Appolon struggled for years to find a sense of belonging in his native Haiti and in the United States. He discovered his purpose in teaching dance to heal and engage community members of all ages and backgrounds in celebrating cultural diversity.
  • Navigating Hope: Learn about Mani Biswas who spent 17 years in a refugee camp and now helps other refugees navigate the challenges of integration in the United States.

Each film is ten minutes long and there will be a community discussion after the screenings. Participants will be given a set of questions to spark discussion on the night of the event. This is an online event.

Registration is free. Donations will be gratefully accepted to help cover the costs of this event.

What’s The Story? Stories are at the core of what we do at The House of the Seven Gables. They are not just a part of our past, but also our present and future. In 2021, we look forward to exploring the lore of our historic site and surrounding community.
