Among our first editions of Hawthorne’s work is this copy of The House of the Seven Gables that came to us from renowned Hawthorne book collector, C. E. Frazer Clark. Inside the front cover is pasted a receipt for repairs on the fireplace and chimney in the office of Salem’s customs surveyor – Nathaniel Hawthorne.
