Description

The Gables had a special guest in 1939…Betty Crocker! The fictional celebrity “hosted” a radio show put out by General Mills on which she talked about the Tea Room that once stood where our Visitor Center is today. This copy of the script from that program includes a letter from “Betty Crocker” and an introduction where she discusses Christmas recipes before mentioning the ‘romantic appeal’ of Salem. As part of the Betty Crocker Service Program’s show, the host would present listeners with recipes from the various locations she visited; this episode featured a recipe for Boston Cream Pie.
