In the early 1900s the Derby Street neighborhood was the center of the immigrant Polish community in Salem. People from Poland came to work in the cotton and other factories that were the lifeblood of Salem’s economy then. Strong ties were created between this community and The House of the Seven Gables Settlement Association.
