Jonathan Hathorne (1641-1717) is the great-great-grandfather of Nathaniel Hawthorne. He is best known for his role as a judge in the Salem Witch Trials of 1692. His participation in those events would greatly influence Nathaniel Hawthorne’s writing, particularly his gothic themes.
