Due to the forecasted storm, The House of the Seven Gables will open at 12 noon on Friday, March 6. If you purchased tickets for a morning tour on Friday, please check your voicemail or email for a message from us about rescheduling.

The City of Salem has issued a street parking ban effective 7 pm on Thursday, March 5 and ending at 6 am Friday morning. Salem residents are welcome to park in our lot overnight, but all vehicles must be moved from the lot by 9 am. Vehicles left past that time will be towed.

Help us Celebrate our Founder’s Birthday

Caroline Emmerton was born on Summer Street in Salem on April 21, 1866, in a house that is today The Salem Inn. Her wealthy family valued community service and Caroline carried on the tradition, founding and supporting several philanthropic organizations in town. One man who had grown up attending activities at the Settlement said that “she seemed a kind of continual spring, ever bubbling with good deeds.”

In celebration of Caroline’s 158th birthday, we are celebrating her impact on the city of Salem and her vision and foresight in creating The House of the Seven Gables Settlement Association. Her vision endures today, as our organization continues to tell the history of America through the Turner-Ingersoll Mansion and welcome new people to our country with ESL and citizenship classes.

Let’s continue Caroline’s extraordinary work together as we commemorate her birthday. Give to The Gables’ Annual Fund today in her honor. Your support enables The Gables to uphold her vision of compassionate service and social justice.
