Welcome to our new president

photograph of a manWe are delighted to welcome Ken Turino, a leader in the museum field, as our newly appointed president of the Board of Trustees. “I originally joined because I truly believe in the mission and The Gables’ commitment to issues of social justice,” states Turino. “Ours is an extraordinary historic site with an extraordinary history that seeks to engage the community with programs and interpretation.”

Ken Turino is a curator, educator, director, producer, and author. As Manager of Community Partnerships and Resource Development at Historic New England [link to], he oversees community engagement projects throughout the region and is responsible for exhibitions. His films have been shown on PBS including the prize-winning film, “Back to School: Lessons from Norwich’s (VT) One-Room Schoolhouses.” Ken has published numerous public history articles including many with a focus on interpreting historic sites and on LGBTQ history. Ken’s most recent publication in 2019, with Max van Balgooy, is “Reinventing the Historic House Museum, New Approaches and Proven Solutions.” Ken has served in a number of leadership and consultation roles at historic sites across the country.

“I’m excited to take the lead at this welcoming, vibrant, and relevant institution,” he says.

Thank you to the following members of the Board of Trustees

We would like to thank the outgoing president, Patricia Fae Ho, for her creative leadership over the last two years as well as outgoing treasurer Kevin Quinlan for his careful, thoughtful oversight of our finances. Both Patricia and Kevin will remain on our Board of Trustees.

Elizabeth McKeigue is the vice-president and Mariflor Uva is the treasurer.

We thank all of our leadership – Board of Trustees, advisory council, and committee members for their dedication, hard work, and guidance through one of the most challenging years ever.
