In 2020 we proudly debut the New Immigrant and Refugee Visions (NIRV) documentary series.
New Immigrant and Refugee Visions (NIRV) is a collection of ten documentary films by and about immigrants. These short films provide a unique insiders’ perspective on the integration challenges immigrants face and the contributions they make to our culture, economy and social fabric. The filmmakers made these short films to engage communities in dialogue about immigrants and immigration in the United States. Each film will be followed by a community conversation.
Ten immigrants from ten countries of origin were selected, trained and mentored by CSFilm to produce short films about their fellow new immigrants and refugees. Most of the trainees had no previous experience with filmmaking but came with storytelling experience from radio, photography, video, theater, and writing. Each demonstrated a commitment to their communities and an interest to use documentary filmmaking in their ongoing work and as a tool for social and economic development.
The films were made to engage people with diverse backgrounds and opinions in dialogue about immigrants and immigration.
The House of the Seven Gables will debut parts one and two on Wednesday, March 25, 5:30 – 8 p.m.
