Tickets Left for October Performances

October Nights

Excitement is in the air! October performances are about to kick off. The Legacy of the Hanging Judge and Spirits of The Gables begin October 11 at 8 p.m.

The Legacy of the Hanging Judge

See how Nathaniel Hawthorne felt about his family’s 1692 legacy in The Legacy of the Hanging Judge, which takes place in the home he was born in. Learn about the Salem Witch Trials through the eyes of the author. Visitors will meet Nathaniel Hawthorne as he agonizes over his writing. He hopes to atone for the role his ancestor, and witch trials judge, John Hathorne played in the tragic events.

As the performance moves through the historic house, it goes back in time and introduces us to many characters, including perpetrators and victims of the infamous Salem Witch Trials.  They warn us not to turn a blind eye to injustice “or it could be you in the cell here beside me.”

Spirits of The Gables

Spirits of The Gables will sweep you up into a tale of guilt, greed and revenge as characters from Nathaniel Hawthorne’s famous novel, The House of the Seven Gables (1851)come to life. You will meet the characters and listen as they recount their stories in the house that inspired their creation. The Ghost of Matthew Maule stalks the audience and warns that the Pyncheons will die horrible deaths — “God will give them blood to drink” for the injustice done to him.  We find there is only one solution to this family feud — love.

Performances begin every five to ten minutes. Each show lasts approximately 35 minutes. The last performance begins at closing. If you want to see both Legacy of the Hanging Judge and Spirits of The Gables, be sure to check out our combination ticket option!

Shows sell out — be sure to get your tickets for this year’s performances ahead of time!
