Some of our family programs have been paused for 2021 due to staffing. We look forward to bringing these back for locals and visitors in 2022.
Please visit our Programs Page to learn about ways the young and young-at-heart can enjoy our historic site.
Kids’ Cove at the Counting House
Kids can bring their parents along to our maritime discovery zone overlooking historic Salem Harbor. Take a peek at the Friendship of Salem through the telescope at the porthole. Imagine life aboard a ship while while checking out the harbor view or taking a rest in the crew bed. Charts of Salem Harbor as well as a compass rose will help guide the way for adventure. After taking a sniff of some spices, head outside to the helm and ring the ship’s bell. Open during regular hours, year-round.
Living History Labs – Returning 2022
Part history, part experiment. The Living History Labs at The House of the Seven Gables allow the young and young-at-heart to try their skills with activities from the past. Whether you are trying your hand during “skill with a quill,” taking a jaunt on the seaside lawn with colonial toys or games, or trying a sewing card from Caroline Emmerton’s Settlement House, you will be learning and having fun at the same time. Offered seasonally, July – October, during regular weekend hours.
School Vacation Programs – Returning 2022
Looking for something fun during school vacation week? Enhance your day in Salem with our school vacation programs. Activities change annually, but young learners have been able to enjoy our Living History Labs and Constructing History at The Gables programs. Check our events calendar to plan your school vacation visit. Offered during winter and spring school vacations based upon the local school calendar. Activities are included with general admission.
