Join us as we welcome Salem native Richard Tobin as he transports us back to Derby Street in the 1940s and 50s! Tobin was brought up in an Irish family in the Polish neighborhood of Salem and was an active participant in the House of the Seven Gables Settlement Association.

Our September 19 Community Conversations center on two films from New Immigrant and Refugee Visions (NIRV). The two short documentaries provide a unique insider’s perspective on the integration challenges immigrants face and the contributions they make to our culture, economy and social fabric.

You will go home with an ornament with your own Petrykivka design! All proceeds go to Dobro New England to provide humanitarian support for the people of Ukraine.

Oleksandra Kovalchuk, Acting Director of the Odesa Fine Arts Museum, will tell the stories of 10 exceptional works of Ukrainian art. These stories will give listeners a glimpse into the history of Ukrainian art and culture. The selected works span the periods from the Byzantine mosaics to Ukrainian avant-garde and contemporary art. All attendees will enjoy Ukrainian pastries, a hot beverage, and browse the Ukrainian crafts for sale after the lecture.

Russia’s war in Ukraine has entered its eighth month. Emily's presentation will explain the background of the invasion, look at Ukraine’s history, and discuss potential future outcomes for Ukraine and the world.
