DESCRIPTION:The House of the Seven Gables has many stories to tell\, but we can only tell so many on our usual tour. Join The Gables for a special “Behind the Scenes” tour where you will get into spaces the public generally isn’t allowed\, hear some of the lesser-known stories\, and enjoy The Gables like few ever have! \n  \nThis is a 90-minute tour in which you will be standing and walking on uneven floors\, ducking\, and maneuvering through areas with limited lighting. Hard hats and flashlights will be provided and are required. A waiver will be presented to you upon your arrival. Space is limited and registration is required.

In the 1620s the land that would one day become the Massachusetts North Shore was a harsh frontier. Native Americans\, fishermen\, and religious exiles struggled to survive while speculators strived to profit off the vast resources of this New World. \n\nOut of the disease\, greed\, and chaos of the era would emerge one of the most unique cities in the world. Learn how a working-class salter named Roger Conant became the first governor of Massachusetts and why Miles Standish tried to end this new colony of fishermen with brute force. Meet the woman who led the Massachusett people through their most trying times but whose name was ultimately lost to recorded history. \n\nThis event is free as part of Trails and Sails\, but registration is encouraged.
