Applicants\, their families and friends\, and members of the general public are welcome to join us. \nSeating is limited to applicants and those in need. SUMMARY:Naturalization Ceremony
DESCRIPTION:Join us in welcoming and celebrating our New Americans.\nThe House of the Seven Gables Settlement Association in collaboration with USCIS will host a Naturalization Ceremony for new Americans from the region.  This date will culminate the journeys and many roads traveled by these hopeful individuals to officially be ‘named’ Americans; a moment when pride and excitement are palpable.\nOur Founder’s\, Caroline Emmerton\, philanthropic nature led her to our Settlement mission supporting and educating new American’s over 100 years ago.  We continue to support our new Americans today through different educational programs\, celebrations\, and striving to be part of a welcoming community. \nEvent Update as of 9/12/21\nThis event will be held outdoors on our Seaside Lawn. Applicants\, their family and friends\, and members of the general public are welcome to join us. \nSeating is limited to applicants and those in need. This will be a standing event for most attendees. \nFACE MASKS ARE REQUIRED FOR ALL ATTENDEES. This is an outdoor event but considered a court setting. Masks are required in all court settings.

DESCRIPTION:In this 50-minute online program\, living history performers Richard Smith and Rob Velella will explore the relationship of Henry David Thoreau and Nathaniel Hawthorne using their original words to convey their thoughts on their 19th-century world\, their contemporaries like Alcott and Emerson\, and one another. This living history program\, which premiered at the Thoreau Society Annual Gathering in 2014\, gleans directly from letters\, journals\, speeches\, and other writing to bring listeners back to New England of the mid-1800s. \nA question and answer session will follow the program. \nBetween the two of them\, Rob Velella and Richard Smith have been performing living history for more than four decades. They are frequent collaborators who enjoy bringing these writers of the past to life in order to broaden our understanding of their complexities and their humanity. \nRegistration is free for this online event.
