New Immigrant and Refugee Visions is a collection of documentary films by and about new immigrants in the United States.

Their stories provide a unique insider perspective on the integration challenges faced by immigrants and the contributions they make to the culture, economy and social fabric of the United States. Join us to see these 10 unique films made by 10 immigrants. Each film will be followed by a community conversation about a variety of topics related to immigration.

Schedule for April 15:

  • Worlds Apart at Home- tensions between parents and teenagers- one trying to fit in to American culture; the other trying to hold on to their Somali traditions.
    • Filmmaker: Abdirahman Abdi graduated in 2018 from UMass Boston with a degree in media communications and sociology. He emigrated from Somalia in 2007 and now lives in Roxbury, MA.
  •  She’s an American Child- A dilemma of identity. A life of uncertainty. Will one or both be deported?
    • Filmmaker: Rafael DeLeon teaches computer literacy at the KIPP Academy Charter School & co-founded The Latino Support Network. Rafael emigrated from the Dominican Republic in 2009 and now lives in Lynn, MA.
