New Immigrant and Refugee Visions is a collection of documentary films by and about new immigrants in the United States.

Their stories provide a unique insider perspective on the integration challenges faced by immigrants and the contributions they make to the culture, economy and social fabric of the United States. Join us to see these 10 unique films made by 10 immigrants. Each film will be followed by a community conversation about a variety of topics related to immigration.

Schedule for March 25:

  • Campaign for a New American An Indian immigrant’s daughter campaigns to be elected as the first woman of color to the city council of a working-class town that has always been a magnet for immigrants.
    • Filmmaker: Qin Li, scholar-activist focused on women’s empowerment.  Emigrated from      China in 2015, lives in Revere, MA
  • Pulse of a Dream– A Ugandan immigrant struggles to understand why he, his wife and most of their fellow Ugandans, with degrees in other professions, are working as nursing assistants.
    • Filmmaker: Mubarak Muwonge Nsamba studied forestry in Uganda but worked in IT; emigrated from Uganda in 2017, lives in Lowell, MA.
