Description
This incredible book was in the Hawthorne family for generations. Starting with the first inscription in Nathaniel Hawthorne’s hand, it appears the book was a gift to the two-year-old Una from a close friend of the Hawthorne’s – author and publisher Evert Augustus Duyckink – the same man who would later introduce Hawthorne to Herman Melville. The book was then passed to his son Julian, who then passed it on to his children and included their names beneath his father’s inscription.
