“Love, whether newly born or aroused from a deathlike slumber, must always create sunshine, filling the heart so full of radiance that it overflows upon the outward world.”
– Nathaniel Hawthorne, The Scarlet Letter
In the long, dark days of winter, our hearts can be warmed by thinking about the role of love in our lives. Even Hawthorne, known for his dark writing, found a certain radiance and redemption in the power of love. Many of his best works reflect this theme.
In 2018, our “stage” was graced by Karen Nascembeni and Dana Hersey – two stalwarts of the local entertainment industry for a reading of love letters between Nathaniel and Sophia Hawthorne. Dearest Dove [click to watch!] was written by Anne Lucas, another local legend.
