This year has not gone as planned. In March we closed our historic campus to the public for the first time in many years. In June, we reopened our gardens and grounds. We were overjoyed to reengage with our community in person. But the return to the full operations needed to sustain this operation is still in the distance. Our recovery will take time.

We have not been idle in 2020. Our hard-working team honors our mission despite the impediments, starting with innovative ways to stay connected. And we have made major improvements to this National Historic Landmark District site and its operations.  We planned engaging virtual programs and classes; we came up with fun, immersive virtual tours; we set up a new system to integrate ticket sales, customer relations management, financial tracking and wealth analytics; we inventoried and rehoused our archives and put highlights online; and we continued to preserve our historic buildings.

None of this vital work is possible without the help of dedicated members and supporters like you. Therefore, we are asking you to contribute to our most important campaign of the year —our 2020 Annual Fund. Our goal is to raise $50,000 by December 31, 2020.

The Covid-19 pandemic has hit The Gables especially hard. In a normal year, over 80 percent of our revenue is earned through in-person visitation and store sales. Although we have gone to great lengths to cut costs, The Gables is a very expensive organization to run and will most likely suffer a loss of $750,000 by the end of the calendar year.

We know that many people are going through difficult times right now, but I hope we can count on your continued support at whatever level your current circumstances allow.
