The month of October might be in the rearview mirror, but we’re keeping ourselves busy here at The Gables! Visitors are welcome to join us for daily tours from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. We’ve got a couple of special programs and lectures planned including a Pop-Cutlture Writers Meetup. The Witch City Writers want to use the inspirational powers of the historic site for this National Novel Writing Month creative event. The goal will be to meet up and write as much as you can in two hours using a fun prompt from our POP! Goes The Gables programming.
Some of our staff members are heading up to Burlington, VT for this year’s New England Museum Association Conference. Pilar Garro and Julie Arrison-Bishop are presenting at the conference with some talented museum professionals from around the region. Our staff looks forward to learning all we can from our colleagues and bring these best practices back to our visitors.
We’d also like to congratulate our Assistant Manager of Visitor Services, Ben Lithgow. On November 8, he’ll be receiving the Geoff Woodman Hospitality Award at the North of Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau annual dinner. This award recognizes one individual who has made significant contributions to tourism in the region and we’re proud of Ben’s hard work this year!
Finally, we kick off our partnership with It Starts With Me. We’ll be collecting non-perishable goods through November 22. The goal is to provide complete Thanksgiving dinners for 500+ local families. Drop off your goods here and get a 10% discount pass to shop in our Museum Store! Our list includes:
- Gravy
- Roasting tins
- Stuffing
- Canned vegetables
- Bottle juice
- Cranberry sauce
- Cooking oil
- Market Basket gift cards
