A Childhood Visit to The Gables

Author Diana Rubino recounts her first visit to The House of the Seven Gables, a visit that would leave a lasting impact:

“I’m originally from New Jersey, and my parents took me on my first trip to New England when I was 10. I fell in love with the House of the Seven Gables and knew I would live near there someday. I followed through and moved here in 1988. It’s still my favorite house in the world, and I had the privilege of a private tour while researching my novel about Sophia Hawthorne, FOR THE LOVE OF HAWTHORNE. It meant a lot to me to write scenes in my book that take place in the house, with Nathaniel and Sophia visiting Susanna Ingersoll. I enjoy visiting the house as much as possible.”
