Secret Room and Interpretive Planning Project
In 2016, The House of the Seven Gables completed the structural restoration of the Dining Room Chamber and the reconfiguration of the Accounting Room. Staff worked with visitors in 2017 to find the best stories and histories to share in the space. The only consensus among our visitors was that there was no consensus in what we should tell.
Starting in 2018, The Gables hired ObjectIDEA, a Salem-based museum consultancy firm to help with creating an interpretive plan for the entire museum campus. What better time than our 350th anniversary to decide how we would share the next 350 years of stories?!
In 2019 and beyond, The Gables will be a laboratory as we work with our dedicated staff and trusty visitors to help forge a new path sharing the architectural, literary, and service legacy of one of the most beloved historic house museums in America.
Funding will be needed to complete goals in our new plan and we invite you to support our efforts. Give the gift of lasting stories and an enduring American story to future generations by supporting our ongoing work in the Secret Room and beyond!
